Brightmoor Resident and neighbor Ken Johnson said he was pleasantly surprised to come home from work and find a box of food on his front porch December 22.
Johnson is one of many residents who called our office on or before January 2 to thank us for the holiday meal box delivered to their household for Christmas.
“I want to tell you personally, God is blessing and will continue blessing City Mission for all the work they are doing for Brightmoor,” Johnson said to our office manager.
And we want to thank you, City Mission donors, volunteers and friends for the Christmas miracle you performed last month in providing holiday meal boxes to 800 families and presents for 350 children in northwest Detroit.
To everyone who donated their time and resources to provide funding, assemble boxes, unload trucks of food, fill boxes with canned goods, load cars with boxes and presents and drive them to Brightmoor households, Thank You!
“It’s not about feeding people in poverty, it’s about showing them God’s love,” said Jamail Aikens, City Mission business director.
We are calling it a Christmas miracle because just two weeks before Christmas we only had 75 children sponsored for presents and enough donations to provide only 350 household holiday meals. “You’re witnessing a Christmas miracle,” Nicole Aikens, City Mission executive director told the volunteers assembled for the delivery.
In our case, God provided our miracle at the hands of committed volunteers, donors and friends.
From high school students on the Brother Rice Soccer Team to families like Christine Dempster’s, her husband and two sons, who just wanted to come out and do their part; to community residents like Larcenia Walk and City Mission board member, Mark Wright; to faithful volunteers like Mike Mester and anonymous donors; to every single person who helped out that day in any way, we could not have done CHRISTmas ‘07 without you! And on behalf of grateful families and children, thank you, again for your continued support and partnership.
