Through generous donations from sponsors and with the help of over 100 volunteers, we distributed food and holiday meal boxes to 800 Brightmoor families for Easter.

“We are in the business of changing the lives of kids and families in Brightmoor,” said Nicole Aikens, City Mission executive director. “What we’re going to do today is go out and feed our people.

The food came with flyers inviting residents to our weekly community bible study and letting them know about summer programs and summer camps at City Mission. We also included a postcard with the true Easter story written on it to remind our neighbors of the message behind all that we do.

“What we do in our community we do, not out of pity, but out of love,” said Jamial Aikens, to the crowd of volunteers on Saturday. “The love of Jesus brings hope to people’s lives.”

Every family in our outreach area received something to prepare for Easter; chicken legs or, chicken legs and macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, bread, apples, eggs, milk, and margarine.

The food items may not last long, but they will go a long way in meeting a need and  building relationships with children and families here that can impact their lives and our community for the better.

We hope you enjoyed a wonderful Easter with your family and loved ones. Thank you for helping us celebrate Easter with our families and neighbors in Brightmoor.
